BREAKING: An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder following a deadly shooting in Blacktown, Sydney, that left a 28-year-old man dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident, which unfolded on Carinya Street just before midday on Friday, triggered a dramatic police chase that ended in a crash on Kildare Road.

Authorities confirm that the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds to his neck, chest, and leg. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire, which prompted a rapid police response from nearby officers at the Blacktown police station, located less than 500 meters from the scene.

According to NSW Police Superintendent Brendan Gorman, the alleged shooter and a second man, believed to be in his mid-twenties, attempted to flee the scene in a ute, sparking a five-minute police pursuit. The vehicle crashed just under a kilometer away, prompting the duo to attempt a getaway on foot. Police quickly apprehended both men after a brief chase.

The older suspect is currently receiving treatment for minor injuries in a hospital under police guard. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old has been charged with murder, take and drive conveyance without consent, and police pursuit. He was denied bail and is set to appear in court on Saturday.

This incident marks another alarming episode in a series of public shootings in Sydney, which have seen more than a dozen violent incidents, including arson attacks and kidnappings, since Christmas 2024. In response, police established the 150 officer-strong Taskforce Falcon in May to combat escalating underworld violence.

As the investigation continues, residents in the area are urged to stay vigilant. This developing story highlights the urgent need for community safety and effective policing in the face of rising crime rates. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
