With Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event just around the corner on July 9th, tech enthusiasts are abuzz with speculation about the next generation of foldable devices. The spotlight is on what Samsung has in store for its foldable series, and recent developments have provided a tantalizing glimpse. According to Android Authority, new animations discovered in a recent One UI 8 build may have revealed Samsung’s upcoming trifold phone, rumored to be named the “Galaxy G Fold.”

This potential revelation aligns with hints dropped by Samsung earlier this year. Back in January, during another Unpacked event, the company teased a triple-screen device, sparking curiosity and speculation. However, the newly surfaced animations offer a more detailed look at what the device might entail and how it could function in reality.

Unpacking the Trifold Design

The animations, labeled “Multifold 7” within the software files, showcase a device with a three-panel design supported by two hinges. The right-most panel features a large, triple-camera setup, which also appears to house the NFC chip. When folded, the central panel serves as the cover display, complete with its own front-facing camera.

The folding mechanism is particularly noteworthy. Unlike the “Z” shape seen in devices like the Huawei Mate XT, Samsung’s design folds in a “G” style. In this configuration, the left-hand display folds inward, with the right-hand display then folding over it. This design theoretically protects the large internal screen when the device is closed.

However, the design is not without its quirks. One animation explicitly warns users against folding the right-side panel first, as the large camera module could prevent proper closure and potentially damage the displays.

Speculation and Reality

While these animations provide a compelling look at Samsung’s potential new offering, it’s important to approach them with caution. As with any leak, the final design and marketing name, whether “Galaxy G Fold” or “Multifold 7,” could still change. Nonetheless, these animations represent the most concrete evidence yet of Samsung’s innovation in the foldable phone market.

The timing of this leak is particularly intriguing, as it comes just days before the official Unpacked event. The tech community is hopeful that Samsung will provide an official announcement, complete with pricing and availability details, for this next chapter in foldable technology.

Looking Ahead to the Unpacked Event

With the Galaxy Unpacked event imminent, anticipation is at an all-time high. Samsung’s foldable devices have consistently pushed the boundaries of smartphone technology, and the potential introduction of a trifold design could further solidify its leadership in the market.

For those eager to be among the first to own the new Galaxy device, Samsung is offering a reservation program. By signing up on Samsung’s website, prospective buyers can “Reserve the next Galaxy,” earning a $50 Samsung Credit redeemable towards ecosystem purchases during preorder and a chance to win a $5,000 Samsung credit through a sweepstakes.

As the countdown to the Unpacked event continues, the tech world watches with bated breath. Will Samsung redefine the foldable market once again? Only time will tell, but the excitement is palpable.
