UPDATE: A man in his 60s has tragically died while battling a bushfire on the south coast of Western Australia. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at approximately 2:20 PM in Ravensthorpe, located 540 km southeast of Perth. Emergency services are on high alert as the fire continues to pose a serious threat to nearby homes.

According to police, the victim was a farmer who was using a front-end loader to create a firebreak on his property when his vehicle became engulfed in flames. He died at the scene, prompting an immediate investigation by WA Police. Officials confirmed that they will prepare a report for the coroner regarding the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.

The bushfire has already consumed around 300 hectares of farmland, leading to a bushfire watch and act warning for the West River and West Fitzgerald localities. The fire is currently contained but not fully controlled, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

Residents in the area have been urged to remain vigilant. The DFES stated, “There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is burning in the area and conditions are changing.” Locals are advised to monitor their surroundings closely.

Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the bushfire, which is not currently being treated as suspicious. As the situation develops, further updates will be provided to keep the community informed.

Residents and those in the vicinity are encouraged to stay tuned for more information and follow all safety guidelines as emergency services continue to manage the fire.
