UPDATE: Monbulk’s top side delivered an electrifying performance, clinching their second consecutive victory with an impressive 18/0 win against Boronia on Saturday, October 14, 2023. This dynamic match took place at the Hawks’ home venue, marking a significant momentum shift after their initial win against Warburton just a week prior.

With their newfound confidence, Monbulk showcased their determination throughout the contest. Despite the seemingly comfortable scoreline of 86-66, every player faced intense competition, with all rinks pushing hard for their victories.

Eric Markham stepped up as skip in place of Jim Bras, leading the team with a commendable score of 24/16. Notably, Shaun Wilson returned to the club after a 17-year hiatus, providing strong support alongside Klaus Eisele and Irma Turner. Dion Addison (25/19), Brian Smith (21/16), and Rob Wilson (16/15) also triumphed in tight matchups, contributing to the overall clean sweep.

Meanwhile, in Side 2 Division 5, Monbulk’s second team faced Mitcham in a gripping match characterized by a series of close shots. Ultimately, Mitcham edged out the contest 4/14 74/82, but not without highlights. Don Barnetson’s rink delivered a stunning performance, securing a rare maximum 8 count on one end, an achievement that many players don’t attain in their entire careers. Barnetson, along with teammates Mark “Candles” Hoefer, Mark Johnston, and Ivan Baric, earned well-deserved congratulations.

Side 3 Division 8 also celebrated success, defeating Healesville 14/2 66/54 in a match bolstered by spirited fan support. Mike Harris (28/19) shined alongside Graeme Godkin, Brendon Griffiths, and Brian Henderson. Additionally, it was great to see Margaret O’Brien back on the greens after an injury, contributing a solid score of 18/14.

However, not all teams fared as well. In the Midweek Tuesday Pennant, the top side faced disappointment against lower-ranked Eltham, losing 2/14 55/64. This unexpected outcome left Monbulk’s players disappointed, as they had anticipated a victory. Rob Wilson (21/20), Jim Bras (15/23), and Brian Smith (19/21) will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming matches.

On a brighter note, Monbulk’s second team in Division 3 excelled at home against Heathmont, winning convincingly 14/2 67/53. This victory propels them to second place in the ladder, thanks to standout performances from Ray Pike (24/15) and Andrew Smith (23/17), despite a narrow loss from Don Barnetson (20/21).

In another unfortunate turn, Side 3 in Division 5 had their match abandoned due to the closure of Eastwood Golf’s greens, leaving players sidelined due to recent weather conditions.

As Monbulk looks forward to future matches, the club’s resolve to improve and maintain their winning streak remains strong. Fans and players alike are eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.
