A new café concept is set to open in a historic chapel in the town south of Detroit. Chapel Coffee Co. will take its place at 1148 Monroe Street, with plans to welcome customers in spring 2024. The venue, originally built in 1883, is currently undergoing renovations to transform it into a community gathering spot.
Catrina Staats, the owner of Chapel Coffee Co., has dedicated the past two years to developing this venture. In addition to running the café, Staats is also known in the area as a self-employed cake artist and cook. The café aims to create a welcoming environment for families and friends to enjoy a selection of coffees, teas, pastries, and sandwiches.
“We’re transforming this 1883 chapel into a beautiful palace for community, where friends gather over great coffee and fresh bites,” Staats shared in a recent post on the café’s Facebook page. The café will be situated on the north side of Monroe Street, directly across from popular local spots, including the Wolf’s Den bar and Nina’s Italian Pizza.
As the renovation progresses, details about the menu have started to emerge. Patrons can expect an extensive offering that includes blended drinks, waffles, and breakfast sandwiches. The café is also expected to feature a range of pastries, aimed at complementing the beverages on offer.
Staats has been teasing the opening of the café since June 2023, and the anticipation within the community is building. With construction underway, updates will be posted regularly on their Facebook page, providing the public with insights into the evolving concept.
Chapel Coffee Co. represents not just a new business but a revitalization of a historic space. By merging culinary creativity with community spirit, Staats hopes to create a hub where locals can connect and enjoy quality food and drinks in a beautiful setting. As the café gears up for its debut, many are eager to see how this unique venture unfolds in the coming months.
