UPDATE: A 21-year-old P-plater has had his car impounded after being caught allegedly driving at a staggering 159 km/h in a 110 km/h zone on the Hume Freeway at Barnawartha North earlier today. The incident occurred during a routine speed detection operation by Wodonga Highway Patrol on December 20.

Authorities report that the driver not only exceeded the speed limit by 49 km/h but also returned an allegedly positive result for a roadside drug test. As a result, his vehicle has been impounded for a period of 30 days. He is expected to face multiple charges, including driving at dangerous speeds, failure to display P plates, and refusal to comply with an oral fluid test.

This incident is part of Operation Roadwise, a targeted initiative by Victoria Police aimed at reducing impaired driving, speeding, and distraction offences during the busy Christmas and New Year period.
