jca-opens-2-5m-emergency-fund-for-jewish-organizations-now

UPDATE: The Jewish Communal Appeal (JCA) has just announced a groundbreaking initiative to support all Jewish organizations in the wake of the devastating Bondi Beach terror attack. For the first time in its history, JCA is opening emergency funding to any registered Jewish community organization in Australia, providing critical resources to those on the frontlines of support.

This urgent decision comes after the tragic events on December 14, when 15 people were killed during a Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach. The JCA Board of Governors has passed a special resolution to enable funding beyond its member organizations, recognizing the overwhelming need for comprehensive support in these harrowing times.

JCA President Ian Sandler stated the community must respond with “action, courage, and compassion.” He emphasized, “What occurred at Bondi Beach has shaken our community to its core. In moments like these, we must respond not only with words of comfort, but with action.”

The allocated funds will enhance critical services including crisis support, trauma care, practical assistance, and community safety, ensuring that all necessary resources are mobilized effectively. The JCA, in collaboration with the Dor Foundation and Australian Jewish Funders, has also launched the Bondi Beach Terror Relief Fund to provide immediate and ongoing assistance to victims, families, and the wider community impacted by this tragedy.

An initial drawdown of up to $2.5 million from JCA’s Bequest Fund has been approved, which will be utilized if government funding falls short of meeting identified needs. This proactive measure aims to ensure that resources are available where they are needed most, as the community navigates this unprecedented crisis.

Guidelines for eligible organizations to apply for emergency funding will be communicated directly to leadership. The JCA is committed to standing alongside every family and organization affected, fostering a united front against adversity.

Individuals wishing to contribute to the Bondi Beach Terror Relief Fund can make donations at donate.thedorfoundation.org.au/bondi-beach-terror-attack-response/donate.

This initiative marks a significant moment in community solidarity, as the JCA mobilizes to provide essential support in an atmosphere of uncertainty. As the situation evolves, the JCA remains dedicated to addressing the needs of the Jewish community and ensuring that hope and dignity prevail in these challenging times.
