In a recent interview, Paul Rudd expressed his admiration for co-star Jack Black, calling him “a hero” as they promote their upcoming film, Anaconda. Rudd, 56, revealed that he was eager to join the project primarily to work alongside Black again. The film, set to be released on December 25, 2025, takes viewers on an adventure into the Amazon rainforest as two friends attempt to reboot the 1997 classic of the same name.
During a joint interview with People, Rudd shared, “Every once in a while, something will happen where I’m afforded the opportunity to get to work with a hero of mine.” He turned to Black, adding humorously, “It happened on this one in the form of this old hunk of love.” Their camaraderie is evident as both actors reflect on their experiences working together.
The film features a talented cast, including Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn, who play key roles alongside Rudd and Black. Rudd emphasized the importance of the people involved, noting, “It’s the people, really, right?” Black echoed this sentiment, stating, “It is the peeps. It’s funny because in this movie we are playing filmmakers, and so in a way we are playing ourselves. It was very close to home.”
In Anaconda, Rudd portrays Ronald ‘Griff’ Griffen Jr., while Black plays Doug McCallister. The plot follows their characters as they venture into the Amazon to create a modern version of the original film, which starred Ice Cube, Jennifer Lopez, and Jon Voight. Their film project faces unexpected challenges when a massive, bloodthirsty anaconda begins to stalk them.
Rudd and Black have shared the screen in previous films, such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. However, this is the first time they have taken on lead roles together. Rudd expressed his excitement at witnessing Black’s performance, saying, “It really was the first time that I really got to see him in action. People are in awe, rightfully so, of him.”
Reflecting on Black’s character and his interactions with others, Rudd remarked, “Jack is such a good dude, that to see him interact with every single person was astounding.” He praised Black’s ability to create memorable experiences for everyone around him. “You gave everybody a bit of a Jack Black experience. It didn’t matter what the time was or where you were. You’re a very good person. Honest to God, it was inspiring to see,” Rudd added.
As anticipation builds for the release of Anaconda, audiences can look forward to a blend of humor and adventure, rooted in the strong chemistry between its lead actors. Rudd’s heartfelt tribute to Black underscores the deep respect and admiration that exists among the cast, promising a film that not only entertains but also celebrates friendship and creativity in filmmaking.
