Australian swimmer Michael Klim is officially engaged to his partner, Michelle Owen, a significant moment that brought joy to the couple during the festive season. Klim, 48, announced the engagement on social media on December 27, 2023, revealing that Owen had accepted his proposal.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Klim described Owen as “pure heart” and “deeply kind,” noting her unwavering support during challenging times. “Our relationship was built during real adversity, and it never wavered. It makes this moment even sweeter,” he expressed. Klim added that they are “incredibly happy” and looking forward to building their future together, filled with adventure, laughter, and family memories.
The couple shared a series of candid photos from the proposal, which took place at Pt Leo Estate in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. In one image, Klim is seen on one knee by a picturesque lake, presenting the engagement ring while the two celebrated with a bottle of champagne.
Klim’s journey has not been without its challenges. He was diagnosed six years ago with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), an autoimmune disorder that causes progressive weakness and loss of sensation in the limbs. Despite the difficulties, Klim has remained resilient, undergoing intravenous immunoglobulin treatment and reported positive progress in managing the condition during a previous interview on Sunrise.
A celebrated athlete, Klim won a gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and holds 21 titles as a former world champion and world record holder. Klim and Owen have been together since 2019, often dividing their time between Australia and Bali, where Klim’s three children lived with his ex-wife, Lindy Klim, until recently.
This engagement marks a new chapter for Klim, who has embraced both the joys of love and the trials of health with a determined spirit. As they embark on this journey together, Klim and Owen look forward to creating a deeper bond strengthened by their shared experiences.
