UPDATE: Community leader Sunny Duggal is making headlines today for his tireless efforts in emergency relief across multicultural communities in Australia. Serving as president of Community Response Australia (CRA), Duggal has transformed lives through immediate support during crises, including the devastating 2019-2020 Black Summer Bushfires.
In an exclusive interview, Duggal shared, “We delivered 100,000 meals during the pandemic, working 18 hours a day to support those in need.” His organization has evolved into a vital resource, uniting volunteers from diverse backgrounds to provide essential aid.
The CRA began in response to the bushfires, where they successfully delivered 11 tonnes of food to affected communities. This initiative not only galvanized local support but also set the stage for CRA’s pandemic response, which included the distribution of 40 tonnes of fresh food to struggling international students.
Duggal’s commitment stems from his upbringing in Chandigarh, India, where he learned the importance of service from his parents. He stated, “Life is characterized by the conviction to take the right path. You need to choose your path right.” This philosophy guides his work, emphasizing positivity and resilience.
As Duggal continues to lead CRA, the organization is now seeking a dedicated community center to streamline its operations and enhance outreach. “We need a proper space to continue our work,” he emphasized. “With support from the council, we can help those facing food shortages and rental issues amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.”
The CRA also collaborates with Monash Health to support mental health initiatives, illustrating their holistic approach to community wellness. Recently, Duggal received a nomination for the prestigious Stan Henwood Award from Cardinia Shire for his outstanding contributions.
In light of current global economic challenges and crises, Duggal urges for more support for organizations like CRA. “It’s about time we are given a chance to help at the grassroots level,” he remarked. This urgent call to action highlights the pressing need for community-focused relief efforts.
As CRA prepares for its next phase, they invite community members to engage with their mission at communityresponse.org.au. With Duggal at the helm, the organization remains a beacon of hope and resilience amid adversity.
Stay tuned for more updates as CRA continues its vital work in the community.
