URGENT UPDATE: A fierce bushfire is currently raging in Perth’s eastern suburbs, prompting immediate evacuation orders for residents. The fire is reported to be out of control near Temby Ave and Harbour Rd in Kalamunda, leading authorities to issue a bushfire emergency warning for the area as of Thursday morning.
The warning zone encompasses parts of Maida Vale and Forrestfield, extending to residents within the perimeter defined by Norwood Road, Taylor Road, Colac Place, Bird Road, Alpine Road, Wandoo Road, Holmes Road, Anderson Road, and Hawtin Road.
Residents are urged to flee immediately, as Department of Fire and Emergency Services officials warn, “You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes.” The message is clear: “If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place. This may be with family or friends away from the area.”
For those who cannot evacuate, officials stress the importance of sheltering in place. “You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you,” the warning states. It further cautions, “If you are not at home, it is too dangerous to return.”
An evacuation center has been established for those fleeing the fire at the High Wycombe Community and Recreation Centre, located at 200 Newburn Road, High Wycombe.
The bushfire warning zone is located within approximately 5 km of Perth Airport, which is actively monitoring the situation. As of now, no flights have been reported affected by the blaze.
Authorities are urging all residents to take these warnings seriously. The time to act is now—delaying could result in dire consequences. Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops.
