UPDATE: Orange City Council has just approved nearly $100,000 in small donations for community organizations in a move that highlights its commitment to supporting local initiatives. In the 2025/26 financial year, the council’s budget for such donations surged by $10,000, reaching $90,000, as confirmed by the Chairman of the Finance Policy Committee, Cr Steve Peterson.
This shift reflects the council’s recognition of the “usefulness” of these funds in fostering community spirit. “Ratepayers expect Orange Council to support useful community events, charities, and functions,” Cr Peterson stated. The council has already allocated $61,909.75 from this year’s budget, demonstrating the urgency and effectiveness of its small donation program.
During the 2024/25 financial year, the council finished $8,633 under budget, indicating prudent financial management. Out of 54 donation requests processed in 2025, 51 groups received part or all of their requested funding, showcasing the council’s commitment to community support.
In total, the approved funding for small donation grants in 2025 reached $94,294.75 after over $132,000 was requested. Among the notable recipients, both Push for Palliative and the Orange Uniting Church received $5,000 each to support critical initiatives, including contributions to Orange Hospital and providing hot meals to those in need.
Despite having only $25,590.25 remaining in the budget for this financial year, Cr Peterson reassured that there is no immediate risk of overspending. He emphasized that many groups have already been supported in advance of their upcoming events. “There will always be a variety of good causes that don’t get exactly what they want,” he noted, but insisted that the program’s overall impact has been substantial.
The council’s donation program is set to continue, ensuring that modest amounts can facilitate significant contributions to community service across Orange. As the financial year progresses, community members and organizations are encouraged to stay engaged and informed about how these funds are being utilized.
Watch for ongoing updates as more organizations receive support, and see how this funding impacts the community.
