UPDATE: Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has just announced crucial leadership changes that will shape the organization as it heads towards its landmark 50th anniversary in 2028. Co-chairs Kathy Pavlich and Mits Delisle will continue in their roles, while Wendy Maloney joins the Board as Treasurer, signaling a commitment to strong leadership during a vital period of planning and community engagement.
The appointments were confirmed following a successful 2025 Annual General Meeting, where a remarkable 1,627 votes were cast by members, showcasing robust community support. Joining the continuing directors are newly elected members Luna Choo, Savanna Peake, Jarrod Lomas, and Kathy Pavlich for the 2025-2026 term.
In a statement, Pavlich and Delisle expressed their gratitude, saying, “We are honoured to continue serving as Co-Chairs and to work alongside a Board that reflects the depth and diversity of our communities. This is an important moment for Mardi Gras as we strengthen our foundations and prepare for our 50th anniversary.”
Jesse Matheson, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, praised the incoming board and emphasized the importance of their experience. “We congratulate all newly elected Directors and thank every candidate who stood for election. Our Co-Chairs’ commitment will help guide Mardi Gras through a significant period of planning and growth,” Matheson stated.
The 2026 Festival is set to run from February 13 to March 1, but announcements regarding major events have been postponed due to the recent Bondi terrorist attack. This context adds urgency to the leadership transitions as the organization navigates these challenges while planning its biggest celebration yet.
As the Mardi Gras approaches its monumental anniversary, the focus remains on community engagement and ensuring that the festival evolves with clarity, pride, and purpose. The leadership changes reflect a determination to uphold the spirit and values of the LGBTQ+ community, making it a pivotal moment for both the organization and its supporters.
