BREAKING: 7NEWS Perth is set to undergo a significant transformation as world record-holding presenters Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon transition to a new schedule starting January 18, 2026. After an astounding 40 years leading Perth’s news team, Carr and Ardon will continue co-anchoring the flagship 6pm bulletin from Thursday to Saturday. Meanwhile, Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun will take over the Sunday through Wednesday slots.
This change marks an exciting new chapter for 7NEWS Perth, allowing Carr and Ardon to enjoy life outside the studio while still maintaining their presence in the news landscape. Carr expressed her thoughts on the transition, highlighting the importance of change. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned from delivering the news for 40 years, it’s that life can change instantly,” she stated. “Now seems the right time to free ourselves up to enjoy life away from the studio more.”
Director of news and current affairs, Ray Kuka, emphasized that even with the new schedule, Carr and Ardon will remain integral to the identity of 7NEWS Perth. “This gives them more flexibility while ensuring the future of WA’s most watched and trusted bulletin continues to thrive with their enduring influence,” he said.
McMillan, who brings over two decades of experience, expressed his admiration for Carr and Ardon, stating, “They’ve taught us to care about every detail but most importantly how to be loyal to the people who matter most: our viewers.” Tsun echoed similar sentiments, looking forward to the collaborative future ahead.
In a statement, Maryna Fewster, CEO of Seven West Media WA, called 2026 a “huge year” for 7NEWS Perth, indicating that the reshuffling of roles has been handled with respect and support.
Christien de Garis, News Director at 7NEWS, reassured viewers that while the faces on particular nights will change, the commitment to delivering impactful journalism will remain “as strong as ever.”
As part of the new lineup, McMillan and Tsun will continue to cover stories for 7NEWS, with McMillan also hosting the “Money Talks” segment. They will be supported by Ryan Daniels on sports and Samantha Jolly on weather, ensuring viewers receive comprehensive coverage across all key segments.
This major shift in Perth’s news landscape is not just a change in scheduling; it represents a new era for 7NEWS, one that carries with it the legacy and experience of its longstanding anchors while allowing for fresh perspectives and innovation in journalism.
As excitement builds leading up to this new era, viewers are encouraged to stay tuned for the latest updates and stories that matter most to Western Australia. The transition promises to keep the audience engaged, making 7NEWS Perth a continued staple in their daily lives.
