The future of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen may hinge on a potential surgery for his right foot. General manager and president of football operations Brandon Beane confirmed on Wednesday that while surgery is a possibility, it will not interfere with Allen’s participation in organized team activities this offseason.

Allen sustained the injury during a Week 16 victory against the Cleveland Browns. Despite the initial discomfort, the soreness persisted, leading to further complications, including issues with his left knee and right finger during Buffalo’s wild-card victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Beane did not specify when the surgery might take place if it is deemed necessary.

During the Bills’ end-of-season press conference, Beane addressed various team matters, including the recent dismissal of coach Sean McDermott. Owner Terry Pegula explained that the decision stemmed from the team reaching what he termed “the proverbial wall” following another early exit from the postseason. Pegula noted that the emotional state of players, including Allen, was a significant factor in this decision.

In the AFC divisional round game against the Denver Broncos, Allen struggled, contributing to four of Buffalo’s five turnovers in a tight 33-30 overtime loss. Following the game, feelings of disappointment were palpable among the team, especially in the locker room. While Pegula clarified that Allen had no role in McDermott’s firing, he emphasized that the quarterback will play a part in the search for a new coach.

As the Bills prepare for the next season, the health of their star quarterback remains a significant focus. Reports indicate that Allen felt optimistic in the week leading up to the divisional round game, suggesting a complex interplay between physical readiness and team dynamics as they navigate the offseason.

The upcoming decisions regarding Allen’s surgery and the coaching staff will undoubtedly shape the direction of the franchise as it seeks to rebound from a disappointing playoff run.
