Tyson Fury’s plans for a return to boxing have taken a definitive shape, as the former heavyweight champion shifts his focus away from an anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua. After announcing his retirement earlier this year, Fury confirmed he aims for a comeback in 2026, targeting a trilogy with Oleksandr Usyk instead of a long-awaited bout against Joshua.

While Fury’s trajectory seems clear, Daniel Dubois, a rising star in the heavyweight division, believes a victory over Usyk could set him on a collision course with Fury. “Certainly,” Dubois stated in an interview with Sky Sports. “That’s a good position to be in. To be the man, you’ve got to come to me for all the belts if you want to be making some money and being in big-time boxing.”

Dubois is set to face Usyk in a rematch on July 19, 2023, at Wembley Stadium. His confidence stems from a strong belief that he can turn the tables after losing their first encounter, which ended with Usyk halting Dubois in the ninth round. “I’ll give him a real fight this time. That’s all I’ve got to say,” Dubois asserted, indicating he has developed a strategic game plan for their upcoming clash.

Promoter Frank Warren, who represents both Dubois and Fury, remains optimistic about the potential for a future matchup between the two. “No, it’s not [out of the question]. It’s up to Tyson,” he remarked, emphasizing the bright prospects for British boxing. “It shows that boxing’s very much alive in this country.”

As Dubois prepares for the rematch with Usyk, he expresses confidence in his revamped training regimen. He acknowledges that he was not at his best in their previous fight but is now focused on executing a different game plan. “I’m preparing for him; we’re going to deliver,” Dubois said, emphasizing his commitment to improvement.

In discussing his future, Dubois highlighted the generational shift occurring within the heavyweight division. “The old guys are sort of fading out, and a new crop is coming through,” he noted. Dubois is determined to assert himself as a leading contender, suggesting that he is the “new fresh fighter” in the mix.

The heavyweight division also has rising talents like Moses Itauma, a quick southpaw prospect from the UK, who could potentially become a future opponent for Dubois. However, Dubois clarified that he is currently focused solely on Usyk. “I’m going to win all the titles; that’s the next step,” he said, showcasing his ambition.

As the heavyweight landscape evolves, the anticipation for Dubois’s rematch with Usyk continues to build. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Dubois can claim victory and potentially pave the way for a showdown with Tyson Fury in the future.
