Two men, claiming to be a choreographer and a dancer for Beyoncé, reported a theft to police in Atlanta after hard drives containing unreleased music were stolen from their rental vehicle during the singer’s Cowboy Carter tour. The incident occurred on July 8, 2023, when the men parked their rented 2024 Jeep Wagoneer in a parking garage at Krog Street Market for approximately one hour.
While the vehicle was unattended, an individual broke the rear window and took two suitcases containing personal items, including sensitive materials related to Beyoncé. According to a police report released by the Atlanta Police Department, the stolen items included hard drives with unreleased music, concert set lists, and plans for upcoming shows.
One of the men, identified as Christopher Grant, revealed to police that he was carrying important information for Beyoncé. The report states that the hard drives contained watermarked music, a measure used by artists to protect their work from unauthorized distribution. Additionally, a 13-inch MacBook Air was also reported missing.
It remains unclear whether the hard drives were stored in the stolen suitcases. Notably, the police report assigned a placeholder value of $1 to each hard drive, indicating a lack of specific monetary assessment at the time of the report. Following the incident, officers dusted the vehicle for fingerprints, which yielded only two faint prints. Security camera footage captured the break-in, providing potential leads for investigators.
Among the stolen items were a pair of AirPods Max headphones, identifiable through GPS tracking, which led authorities to a suspect described in the report as suspicious. The investigation is ongoing as police work to recover the stolen items and identify the perpetrator.
This incident highlights the vulnerabilities that artists and their teams face while on tour, as sensitive materials can easily become targets for theft. The loss of such unreleased music and concert plans could have significant implications for Beyoncé’s upcoming performances and overall tour management.
