Hyundai has officially launched its latest flagship electric vehicle, the Ioniq 9, in Australia. Priced at $119,750 before on-road costs, this three-row electric SUV is available exclusively in the high-spec Calligraphy trim. The Ioniq 9 aims to deliver a blend of luxury and cutting-edge technology, marking it as the most expensive vehicle Hyundai has offered in the Australian market to date.

Features and Specifications

The Ioniq 9 features a seven-seat configuration, with options for digital exterior mirrors and a six-seat layout available at an additional cost. One of the standout features is the introduction of Digital Key 2.0, which allows users to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle using a smartphone. The technology operates via near-field communication and ultra-wideband, ensuring functionality even without a mobile network signal. Users can share access with up to 15 devices, enhancing convenience for families or shared ownership.

Another notable addition is the Google Places Search, which enables drivers to find destinations using simple text queries. The vehicle is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, a dedicated architecture designed specifically for electric vehicles. This platform is also used in the EV9, the Ioniq 9’s closest competitor, which starts at $121,000 before on-road costs.

The Ioniq 9 is equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive, featuring two electric motors with a combined output of 157 kW and 350 Nm of torque. Suspension is handled by MacPherson struts in the front and a five-link setup in the rear, along with a self-levelling damper system designed to manage heavy loads effectively. Hyundai claims that the Ioniq 9 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes when using a 350 kW DC fast-charger.

Warranty and Service Plans

The Ioniq 9 comes with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, alongside an eight-year or 160,000 km warranty for its high-voltage battery. Under Hyundai’s Lifetime Service Plan, the first service is required at 30,000 km or 24 months, costing $660, followed by a second service at 60,000 km or 48 months for $685.

While the Ioniq 9 has yet to undergo testing by ANCAP or Euro NCAP, it comes equipped with standard safety features designed to provide peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike. The vehicle also includes a complimentary five-year subscription to Hyundai Bluelink connected car services, which is transferable to subsequent owners.

For those interested in additional customization, digital exterior mirrors are available for $3,000, and a six-seat configuration can be added for an extra $2,000. Paint options include metallic and pearl finishes for $750, while a matte finish comes at a cost of $1,000.

The launch of the Ioniq 9 signals Hyundai’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle offerings, combining luxury, performance, and advanced technology in a competitive market. With such a comprehensive set of features and options, the Ioniq 9 is poised to attract a diverse range of consumers looking for an electric SUV that meets modern demands.
