denza-z9-gt-unveils-enhanced-power-and-range-to-compete-with-porsche-taycan

The Denza Z9 GT, a new contender in the electric vehicle market, has received significant upgrades in both power and range, positioning it as a rival to the renowned Porsche Taycan. Although the Z9 GT has not yet been officially confirmed for sale in Australia, it appears in the “Coming Soon” section of the Denza Australia website, alongside the D9 people mover, hinting at its imminent arrival.

In China, the Z9 GT is available in both plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions, with reports from CarNewsChina indicating that both powertrains have been enhanced. The high-performance tri-motor electric variant now generates an impressive 850 kW of power, which is an increase of 140 kW compared to its predecessor. This configuration includes a 230 kW electric motor at the front and two 310 kW units at the rear, delivering remarkable acceleration and performance.

For those seeking a more traditional driving experience, a rear-wheel drive version is also available, producing 370 kW of power. Although specific battery specifications for the updated model have not yet been disclosed, the outgoing version featured a 100.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which is expected to be improved in the new iteration.

The plug-in hybrid variant retains a 152 kW turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 200 kW electric motor at the front, complemented by dual 220 kW electric motors at the rear, resulting in a combined system output of 640 kW. Notably, the battery capacity has been increased significantly from 38.5 kWh to 63.8 kWh, which enhances the electric driving range under the more lenient China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) from 201 km to an impressive 400 km.

Denza has also released fresh imagery showcasing the updated Z9 GT in a striking new Fjord Green finish. The vehicle’s design features have been refined, including the relocation of the LiDAR unit and the addition of a new blue indicator light, which signals when the semi-autonomous driving system is active. The Z9 GT measures 5195 mm in length, 1990 mm in width, and 1490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3125 mm. This makes it 221 mm longer than the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, as well as 23 mm wider and 78 mm lower.

While detailed specifications for the updated Z9 GT are yet to be released, the previous model was equipped with high-end features such as air suspension, Nappa leather upholstery, a 26-speaker sound system, and even onboard fridges in select variants. Should the Z9 GT be confirmed for the Australian market, pricing details remain uncertain. Denza’s most expensive model, the B8 off-road SUV, currently retails for $97,990 AUD before on-road costs, while the smaller B5 is derived from BYD’s Fangchengbao brand. In contrast, the Z9 GT is a distinct offering from Denza itself.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve with electric and hybrid vehicles, the Denza Z9 GT aims to carve out its niche alongside established competitors like the Porsche Taycan, promising a blend of performance, style, and innovative technology.
