URGENT UPDATE: Two people have tragically died in a devastating crash involving an alleged stolen vehicle in Sydney’s south west. The incident unfolded earlier today, with police responding at 10:20 AM to reports of a vehicle theft at a service station on King Georges Road, South Hurstville.
According to authorities, a 25-year-old man was assaulted by an unknown assailant who stole his red sedan. Shortly thereafter, the stolen vehicle was spotted traveling on King Georges Road, Beverly Hills. When the driver failed to stop for police, a pursuit began, escalating rapidly.
NSW Police stated, “With assistance from Polair and multiple police commands, the pursuit continued along the M5 Motorway before it was terminated in the Bankstown area.” Polair maintained surveillance on the vehicle until it crashed into an Alfa Romeo sedan on the Old Hume Highway, Camden South, at approximately 11:10 AM.
The occupants of the Alfa Romeo, both of whom died at the scene, have yet to be formally identified. Meanwhile, the driver of the stolen sedan, a 31-year-old man, fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after. He was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for mandatory testing and will be transferred to Campbelltown Police Station for further inquiries.
