UPDATE: The Monbulk Bowling Club is experiencing a surge in participation and competition as it wraps up an exhilarating pennant season. Over the past few weeks, the club has reported a remarkable increase in new members, particularly through its popular Friday night barefoot bowls program.

The club’s Vice President, Brendan Griffiths, expressed excitement about the growing community interest. “We are absolutely delighted with the interest coming from the community in our Friday night barefoot bowls nights. People come down, have a meal, and enjoy bowling with us,” he stated. The encouraging turnout has led to plans for a beginners’ competition in the coming weeks, which is anticipated to draw even more participants.

In the competitive landscape, the club’s top Saturday side is battling to maintain its position in Division 2, following a season marked by fierce competition. After facing early setbacks with five consecutive losses, the team bounced back with a crucial home win, defeating Warburton 16/2 (100-69) in Round 13. This victory kept their hopes alive for avoiding relegation, although the season ultimately ended without the desired results.

Meanwhile, the Division 5 team has secured a finals spot with a series of impressive performances, including a decisive victory over Croydon. Their most recent match saw them triumph 16/2 (82-79), solidifying their position in the top four. The team is poised for a home final against Warburton, and confidence is high after their recent success.

The newest addition to the club, the Division 8 team, comprised mainly of first-year bowlers, has exceeded expectations by winning six matches. Their final game against Ringwood on July 15 ended in a victory of 14/2 (60-53), a fitting conclusion for a team that has fostered camaraderie and growth.

As the season wraps up, the Monbulk Bowling Club is not just celebrating its competitive achievements but also its thriving community spirit. The surge in social participation reflects a vibrant engagement with the sport, promising a bright future for the club.

Looking ahead, the club is gearing up for finals, with the last matches of the season acting as pivotal moments for teams vying for championship glory. Fans and members are encouraged to join the excitement and support their teams in the upcoming matches.
