Telstra is set to enhance its mobile network in the Brooman area by upgrading the local base station. This initiative aims to significantly improve 4G and 5G connectivity for users, promising faster downloads, smoother streaming, and reduced congestion. The upgrade work will begin on February 19, 2024, which will temporarily impact mobile services in the region.
Christina Cawkell, Telstra’s Regional Engagement Manager, emphasized the importance of reliable mobile connectivity for Australians, stating, “We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country.” Cawkell highlighted that as mobile data usage continues to rise, the addition of extra capacity at the Brooman site will benefit customers through enhanced service quality.
During the upgrade, Telstra plans to minimize disruption by switching off the site only when necessary. Cawkell assured users, “We’ll have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.” Customers will receive text notifications about the ongoing work, ensuring they are informed of the potential service interruptions.
Despite the upgrades, landline services, NBN, and satellite internet services will remain unaffected. Additionally, mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted. In a critical assurance, Telstra noted that any calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile during downtime would automatically connect to an alternative mobile network if available, ensuring access to emergency services remains intact.
The upgrade will require the site to be temporarily offline during specific periods. Telstra encourages users to enable Wi-Fi Calling, a feature available on most smartphones, allowing them to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi during service disruptions. This option can help maintain communication during the upgrade process.
Business owners in the area are advised to consult with their banks about linking their EFTPOS terminals to NBN or Wi-Fi connections, which can prevent delays in transaction processing.
Telstra remains committed to enhancing communication infrastructure, recognizing the vital role its services play in connecting communities, particularly in regional areas like Brooman. As improvements are implemented, the company aims to provide a more efficient mobile experience for all users.
