Minister for Sport and Racing Tim Mander will embark on a week-long visit to the U.S. to engage in vital discussions focused on the delivery of the Games, venue infrastructure, and creating lasting legacies for the region.
Mander’s delegation includes prominent Olympians, Paralympians, and leaders from government, sport, and tourism sectors, all aimed at solidifying Queensland’s standing as a premier destination for international sport and entertainment. This initiative comes in the wake of significant challenges faced under the previous administration, with the Crisafulli Government promising a streamlined approach to ensure Queensland delivers a successful Games experience.
Learning from Global Sporting Events
Minister Mander emphasized the importance of learning from other nations that are preparing to host major sporting events. The United States will showcase its capabilities with the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He stated, “It’s critical that we learn from like-minded host nations so we can deliver the best possible Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.”
During his visit, Mander plans to meet with key stakeholders, including the LA28 Organising Committee, the American Australian Association, and AECOM, which is the official venue infrastructure partner for LA2028. In addition, Mander will participate in the Indo Pacific Forum, a platform designed to strengthen relationships across the Pacific region.
