BREAKING NEWS: Bowral High School has officially opened its state-of-the-art $8 million performing arts centre, known as ‘The Theatre’, following a major upgrade on February 26, 2024. This urgent development aims to enhance High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) opportunities for students, providing top-tier resources for drama, dance, music, debating, and filmmaking.

The Theatre is equipped with specialized spaces for both backstage production and filmmaking, positioning Bowral High as a leader in arts education within the region. Wollondilly MP Judy Hannan echoed these sentiments, labeling the investment as a long-overdue boost for the community. “I am pleased Bowral High School now offers a comprehensive HPGE program designed to nurture student talents across various domains,” she remarked.
Safija Bristina, the relieving principal at Bowral High, declared the new centre the best performing arts space in the Southern Highlands. “This fantastic space not only enhances our programs but also allows us to engage with local primary schools,” she noted, highlighting its potential to positively impact students from neighboring areas.
The upgrades extend beyond the arts; Bowral High has also received advancements in classroom facilities. Nearby, Tangara School at Renwick has added classrooms for students with special needs, while Picton High School has transformed its learning environment with 26 state-of-the-art classrooms and new staff seminar rooms.
Construction is actively progressing on a new high school, public primary school, and public preschool for the rapidly growing Wilton community, all set to open on the first day of term one next year. Deputy Premier and Education Minister Prue Car stressed the importance of these developments, stating, “We are building new schools in growing communities where they are needed most, and delivering upgrades to ensure our schools continue to provide students with world-class opportunities.”
