major-traffic-disruption-in-sydney-after-two-truck-crash

UPDATE: Traffic is at a complete standstill in Sydney’s southwest following a serious two-truck crash on the M7 Motorway early this morning. The crash, which occurred just past Kurrajong Road, involved one truck carrying ethanol, causing major disruptions for commuters.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 6:50 AM and remain actively engaged in cleanup and safety efforts. Both northbound lanes of the M7 have since reopened, but the backlog of vehicles extends back to Hoxton Park Reserve, causing significant delays for morning travelers.

NSW Fire and Rescue acting superintendent Matt Sigmund confirmed that one of the trucks jackknifed, leading to the hazardous situation. By 7:00 AM, one truck was successfully removed from the scene, while teams are still working to clear the second truck with heavy vehicle tow assistance.

“At this stage, there are no reports of serious injuries,” Sigmund stated. “Our firefighters continue to work to maintain safety on the scene and to clean up debris and other items on the roadway.”

Motorists headed northbound from the Hume Motorway are advised to detour using Camden Valley Way and Cowpasture Road to avoid the congestion. Those traveling westbound on the M5 should exit at Casula and take the Hume Highway and Elizabeth Drive to rejoin the M7 at Cecil Hills.

LiveTraffic NSW has urged drivers to allow for extra travel time as traffic conditions gradually return to normal.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety and traffic management in urban areas, particularly during peak hours. As cleanup efforts continue, authorities are working diligently to restore order.
