A new culinary destination is on the horizon for Oakland as the Enssaro Ethiopian Restaurant prepares to open its doors at 5897 College Avenue. The announcement follows a recently submitted alcohol license application, indicating the establishment’s readiness to join the vibrant dining scene in the area, which includes popular spots like Millennium and Zachary’s Chicago Pizza.
The restaurant’s manager, Zenebech Kibret, confirmed the upcoming location but refrained from providing further details prior to publication. Despite this, the restaurant’s website reveals an enticing menu featuring a variety of traditional Ethiopian dishes. Among the highlights are doro wot, a flavorful chicken stew seasoned with berbere—a spice blend that includes cardamom, chili peppers, coriander, fenugreek, garlic, and ginger—and tibs, which consists of stir-fried beef, lamb, or goat sautéed with onions, peppers, and other spices.
In addition to its authentic cuisine, the new Enssaro location will also offer a selection of beer and wine, enhancing the dining experience for patrons. Currently, Enssaro Ethiopian Restaurant operates at 357-A Grand Avenue. It remains unclear whether the recent license application signals a relocation or an expansion of the existing establishment.
As the new restaurant prepares for its debut, no specific opening date has been announced. Residents and food enthusiasts in Oakland are encouraged to stay tuned for updates regarding this exciting addition to the local food landscape.
