UPDATE: The momentum of the top teams in the A Grade netball competitions remains unstoppable as Mitiamo, Kangaroo Flat, and Colbinabbin continue their unbeaten streaks. Just confirmed, Mitiamo faced a tough challenge against third-placed Newbridge but emerged victorious with a commanding 61-38 win.
This significant victory took place on September 6, during what some are calling the “match of the round.” Mitiamo’s strong second quarter, outscoring Newbridge 19-10, set the tone for the rest of the game, demonstrating their determination to defend their title in the Loddon Valley league.
In a post-match statement, Mitiamo coach Abbey Battersby praised her team’s performance:
“Our second quarter in particular was really good and we were able to build on that in the second half,”
highlighting the impact of player Taylah Diss, who made a successful debut in wing attack.
With three games remaining in the season, Mitiamo now turns its focus to their next opponent, Bears Lagoon-Serpentine, who are also vying for a finals spot. The Bears are currently in sixth place, following a solid 63-29 victory over Maiden Gully YCW. They remain one game behind fifth-placed Marong, who had the bye this weekend.
Elsewhere, Pyramid Hill delivered a stunning performance, achieving their highest score since 2017 by defeating winless Inglewood 97-24. This match was characterized by consistent scoring, with Pyramid Hill increasing their tally in each quarter.
Meanwhile, Sandhurst triumphed over South Bendigo with a final score of 73-50, marking a significant return to form for the Dragons. Coach Tamara Gilchrist expressed her excitement about having a complete team on the court for the first half of the match, stating:
“It was really exciting as a club that I had all nine players available.”
As the season approaches its climax, the upcoming matches are critical. The marquee game this Saturday will see Gisborne face off against Sandhurst in what many are predicting to be a qualifying final preview. With Gisborne coming off a bye, the stage is set for a thrilling encounter.
In the HDFNL division, Colbinabbin continues to dominate, taking down reigning champions Elmore 70-23, marking an impressive season with a record of 12-0 and a staggering percentage of 249.1.
As the competition heats up, all eyes will be on the final three rounds, with teams battling for playoff positions. Fans and players alike are urged to stay tuned for what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the season.
