UPDATE: A critical search operation has restarted for a 56-year-old fisherman missing off the east coast of Australia for nearly two days. The man, who left Batemans Bay Marina at approximately 6:00 AM on Saturday, failed to return after a day of fishing, prompting urgent action from emergency services.
The fisherman was last confirmed in contact around 10:00 AM on Saturday. When he did not return that evening, authorities were alerted, and a coordinated search effort was launched. As of Monday, Marine Area Command is leading the search with vessels, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters deployed to locate him.
According to Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Stuart Massey, nearly 30 volunteers are actively scouring the waters between Ulladulla and Merimbula, extending up to 22 kilometers offshore. “All of our dedicated volunteers are tired but ready to continue,” Massey stated, emphasizing the commitment of the teams involved.
The search area is vast, and the determination of local volunteers and officials remains unwavering. Crews from Narooma, Bermagui, and Merimbula are participating in this critical operation, demonstrating the community’s resolve to bring the fisherman home safely.
As the search continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. With the clock ticking, the community is holding onto hope for a positive outcome. Updates will follow as the situation develops.
