UPDATE: A tragic accident has claimed the life of 17-year-old Stirling Heriot, a Year 12 student at The King’s School, following a crash near his family home in Coonamble, NSW. Authorities confirmed the incident occurred around 6:45 PM on July 18, 2023, when emergency services were alerted to a vehicle that had left the road on Quambone Road.
Upon arrival, officers from the Orana Mid Western Police District discovered Stirling deceased at the scene. The vehicle reportedly rolled after veering off the road. Police have since established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this devastating event. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Stirling’s mother, Bridie Heriot, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, stating, “My beautiful boy, how will we do life without you? You could not have been loved more and our hearts are full just thinking of you. Stirling was not only dedicated to his studies in industrial technology, where he was working on a major project involving a tandem-axle multipurpose farm trailer, but also active in sports, being a member of the school’s 2nd IV rowing team, involved in rugby union, and participating in cadets.
The school further noted, “His loss will be deeply felt by his family, his friends, the Baker Hake boarding community, his Year 12 peers, and many others across the school who had the privilege of knowing and teaching him.” They emphasized the importance of supporting one another during this difficult time, urging the community to keep the Heriot family in their thoughts and prayers.
