dalian-beach-welcomes-30-000-daily-visitors-during-summer-rush

Dalian Beach in northeast China’s Liaoning province has garnered attention as one of the world’s most crowded beaches. This 500-metre stretch of sand serves as a popular retreat during the summer months, attracting up to 30,000 visitors daily in peak season. From May to August, the beach becomes an overwhelming hive of activity, making it difficult for visitors to even find a spot to lay down a towel.

The allure of Dalian Beach lies in its accessibility, with excellent transport links connecting it to nearby towns. As temperatures soar to blistering 40 degrees Celsius, the beach offers a much-needed escape. Local news outlets report that on particularly hot weekends, visitor numbers can spike to as high as 60,000, significantly exceeding the typical daily figure of 20,000.

Overcrowding and Visitor Experience

While Dalian Beach may not be a hotspot for international tourists, it remains immensely popular among Chinese locals. Photographs taken during the summer months reveal a vibrant scene, filled with colourful umbrellas and throngs of people enjoying inflatable floats in the water. Despite its charm, many visitors express surprise at the beach’s size. Comments on platforms like TripAdvisor highlight a common sentiment: “The beach is really really small,” noted one visitor who arrived early in May.

The beach’s compactness poses challenges not only for visitors but also for maintenance crews. It is estimated that beachgoers generate up to 20 tonnes of rubbish each day, which creates significant pressure on local cleaning services.

Facilities and Attractions

Visitors to Dalian Beach can also enjoy several amenities. The park area adjacent to the beach features unique sculptures, including a giant seashell perfect for photographs. Kiosks along the shore offer beach gear, toys, and refreshments, catering to the needs of families looking to make the most of their day by the sea. One kiosk, amusingly branded as “No tea no fun,” sells everything from sand buckets to inflatable toys, ensuring visitors are well-equipped for a day of fun.

Despite the challenges posed by overcrowding, Dalian Beach remains an essential summer destination for many. Its combination of natural beauty and vibrant local culture continues to draw thousands, making it a defining feature of summer in this region of China.
