UPDATE: A runaway semi-trailer and excavator plowed into 11 parked cars on Ryedale Road in Denistone, NSW, earlier today, prompting immediate emergency response. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 11:35 AM on August 11, 2025, and officials are calling it an “absolute miracle” that no injuries were reported.
The usually busy road was quickly closed to the public, and power was cut to nearby residents as crews worked to manage the chaotic scene. “I [have to] say it’s an absolute miracle no one was injured in a crash on Ryedale Road in Denistone, just to the rear of the hospital,” stated Superintendent Adam Dewberry of Fire & Rescue NSW. “Fortunately, no cars were coming up the road, by the look of it. Absolute miracle.”
Witnesses reported that the semi-trailer jack-knifed after hitting a gutter, which led it downhill into a residential yard, colliding with multiple vehicles in its path. The excavator, believed to have been in the process of being unloaded from the truck, also slid down the steep road, causing additional damage.
As a result of the crash, two power poles were snapped, leading to blackouts in the area. Emergency services confirmed they were on-site within minutes and are now conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“How this event occurred is still being investigated by police and Safe Work,” Superintendent Dewberry added. “But we understand at this stage that the excavator may have been in the process of being unloaded off the truck when something has occurred and the truck has started to travel down this massive incline; it’s super steep here at Ryedale Road.”
Residents and local drivers are advised to avoid the area as cleanup efforts continue. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as they piece together the events leading to this dramatic incident.
