A new animated feature film featuring the iconic Addams Family is currently in development by the creators of the popular Netflix series *Wednesday*. Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are working on a reboot of the franchise for Amazon MGM Studios, which will be entirely separate from both *Wednesday*—starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams—and the previous animated films released in 2019 and 2021.

In a recent appearance on Deadline’s *Crew Call* podcast, Gough shared that the duo aims to honour the original characters created by the late American cartoonist Charles Addams. He stated, “We’re working on it with Amazon MGM and with Kevin Miserocchi who runs the Addams Foundation, who knew Charles Addams and is the keeper of the Addams flame, along with Gail Berman and John Glickman.”

This new animated project marks a significant reboot of the franchise, distinct from prior films. Gough emphasized that it is still in the early stages of development and noted, “There’s not really much we can say about it.”

Legacy of the Addams Family

The Addams Family first gained popularity in the 1960s with a television series that featured notable actors such as John Astin as Gomez Addams and Carolyn Jones as Morticia Addams. Over the years, the family has appeared in various iterations, including a 1973 animated series and a remake series from 1992 to 1993. The franchise also includes several feature films, most famously the 1991 live-action movie directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.

The Addams Family’s unique charm, characterized by their macabre yet humorous take on life, has captured the hearts of audiences for decades. The upcoming animated film seeks to reinvigorate this beloved series while remaining faithful to its roots.

Fans of the Addams Family can look forward to a fresh take on the iconic characters, which will bring new stories to life while celebrating the legacy established by Charles Addams. With Gough and Millar at the helm, the project is generating excitement among both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.
