A significant change in police leadership is underway in the Limestone Coast Region of South Australia. Superintendent Trent Cox has been appointed as the new Officer in Charge, overseeing a team of 100 police personnel. This transition is set to take place in the coming weeks, as confirmed by a spokesperson for South Australia Police (SAPOL).

Supt Cox succeeds Supt Cheryl Jones, who made history in 2023 as the first female to hold the position based in Mount Gambier. Cox brings extensive experience to his new role, having dedicated nearly half of his 34-year career to serving as a commissioned officer. His previous assignments have included leadership of several key units, such as the Special Crimes Investigation Branch, the Family and Domestic Violence Unit, and the Protective Security Services Branch.

In the interim, Senior Sergeant First Class Nick Patterson is serving as the Acting Superintendent of the Limestone Coast Local Service Area. Patterson has been at the helm of the Mount Gambier Police for the past five years and has almost two decades of service in the region, with previous postings at the Beachport and Millicent stations. His extensive local knowledge and experience provide a solid foundation during this transition period.

The appointment of Supt Cox is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Limestone Coast police force, as he steps into his role following the impactful leadership of Supt Jones. The community anticipates a seamless transition, with both Supt Cox and Acting Supt Patterson committed to maintaining the safety and well-being of the region’s residents.

As Supt Cox prepares to take charge, his leadership style will be closely observed, particularly in light of the critical issues facing law enforcement today. The Limestone Coast community looks forward to his initiatives and vision for the future of policing in the region.
