adelaide-s-crime-data-reveals-safest-suburbs-for-home-buyers

Adelaide’s latest quarterly crime statistics, covering the period from July 1 to September 30, have shed light on the safety of various suburbs, revealing significant disparities in crime rates. This data is particularly relevant for home buyers prioritizing safety and security in their search for a new residence.

The city of Adelaide topped the list with a reported **1,927 crimes**, encompassing a range of offences from theft to assault. Following Adelaide, **Port Augusta** recorded **629 offences**, while **Port Lincoln** trailed with **536**. Other suburbs with notable crime rates included **Salisbury** with **379**, **Mount Gambier** at **374**, and **Morphett Vale** with **318** reported incidents.

Suburb Safety Insights

Areas such as **Modbury**, **Oaklands Park**, and **Elizabeth** also reported significant crime numbers, with **306**, **305**, and **304** incidents, respectively. On the other end of the spectrum, **College Park** and **Glenalta** emerged as some of the safest locations, with just **one** reported crime in College Park and a low number in Glenalta.

Hamish Mill, a selling agent at Williams Real Estate, noted the impact of size on crime rates. “College Park is a really tiny little suburb,” he explained. “There are not many streets and not many houses, which contributes to its low crime rate.” Mill emphasized that many houses in this area are equipped with security features, making them less susceptible to crime. He added, “It also has a lovely community where the neighbours all keep a good eye out for each other.”

Angie Markovic from Century 21 echoed these sentiments, stating that buyers are increasingly seeking a strong sense of community and security. “We had **51 groups** through on the first weekend of an open house in Glenalta, and safety and community were among the top reasons people were attracted to this suburb,” she remarked. Markovic highlighted the importance of long-term residents in maintaining the appeal and stability of a neighbourhood.

Understanding Crime Reporting

The crime data encompasses all reported offences, not just those occurring on private property. Areas with high foot traffic, such as those featuring large retail complexes or transport hubs, tend to report higher crime rates due to the nature of crimes that occur in such environments.

While the statistics paint a comprehensive picture of crime in various suburbs, details regarding sexual assaults were not disclosed, which may affect the perception of safety in some areas.

The findings underline the varying levels of safety across Adelaide’s suburbs and highlight the importance of community and security for home buyers. As these statistics circulate, potential buyers are likely to pay closer attention to the crime rates in their desired areas, shaping their decisions in the competitive real estate market.
