Can Can Culinary Cabaret is set to open a new location in the historic Paris Theater at 6 SW 3rd Avenue in Old Town this November. The theater, a significant part of the area’s cultural heritage since 1890, is transitioning from a traditional cinema to a vibrant venue that combines local cuisine with engaging performances.

The announcement, reported by Bridgetown Bites, marks an exciting development for both the theater and the culinary arts in Portland. Chris Pink, the founder of Can Can Culinary Cabaret, has over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry. He has successfully operated the cabaret at 95 Pine Street in Seattle and has been eyeing the Portland space since the pandemic began. Following a recent roof collapse, Pink and his team are ready to revitalize the theater and introduce their unique blend of dining and performance.

“We and the building are stronger for it,” Pink remarked in an interview with What Now Portland. He described the menu for the Portland location as featuring twists on classic “Can Can favorites” from Seattle. Past offerings have included flatbreads, seafood entrees, soups, and salads. The complete menu will be revealed at a later date, but Pink expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with local purveyors, stating, “We’d love to feature local purveyors and can’t wait to work with Oregon farms and vendors.”

Innovative Space and Design

The Paris Theater space is designed to complement the Seattle location while providing unique features. It boasts taller ceilings, allowing performers to execute more aerial routines. The venue will include a stage balcony and dedicated seating areas for dining guests, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.

Can Can Culinary Cabaret has previously performed in Portland, making this new venture a natural extension of its artistic outreach. The lengthy process of securing the space involved negotiations with the theater’s owner and obtaining the necessary permits, which Pink described as both challenging and rewarding.

The decision to establish a presence downtown mirrors the ethos of the Seattle theater, aiming to draw in both locals and visitors. With the combination of entertainment and fine dining, Can Can Culinary Cabaret is poised to become a notable addition to Portland’s cultural landscape.
