After more than two years of renovations, the beloved Italian restaurant Carmine’s has officially reopened its doors in Chicago. The restaurant, a flagship concept of the Rosebud Restaurant Group, welcomed guests again on January 19, 2024, showcasing a refreshed interior and an updated menu that honors its rich culinary heritage.
Revitalized Space and Design
Carmine’s, located at 1037 North Rush Street, has long been a cherished destination for the local community since its founding in 1994. Following its closure on February 26, 2023, the restaurant underwent a significant $4 million renovation that was initially expected to take around 15 months. The newly designed space spans over 10,000 square feet and features multiple dining rooms, bar areas, and a large all-weather outdoor terrace overlooking the scenic Gold Coast.
The restaurant’s renovation was managed by Jackson Harlan Architectural Group and constructed by Aberdeen Construction. Guests now enter the restaurant via a curved staircase leading to the second floor, where dark wood finishes, leather banquettes, and brass accents create an inviting atmosphere. Large windows provide expansive views of Rush Street and Mariano Park, enhancing the dining experience.
A Menu of Italian Classics
Carmine’s menu retains many of its signature dishes while also introducing new offerings. Diners can expect to see popular items such as Square Noodles, Homemade Eight-Finger Cavatelli, and Meatball Salad. Steak remains a focal point, with options like an 18-ounce USDA Prime strip steak and a theatrical 48-ounce Steak Florentine prepared tableside. Additional highlights include Brick Chicken and seasonal Italian dishes, all complemented by house-made red sauce prepared daily at the Rosebud commissary.
For those with dietary restrictions, the menu offers gluten-free pasta, vegetarian, and vegan options, with prices ranging from approximately $31 to $90. The beverage program features a curated selection of Italian and American wines, along with classic cocktails such as Negronis, Spritzes, and martinis, crafted with Italian amaros and house infusions.
Leading the operations is a team of experienced Chicago hospitality professionals, including General Manager Stephen Oakes, Steven Harris, and Marco Silva. Founder of the Rosebud Restaurants, Alex Dana, emphasized that customer satisfaction remains the top priority. The renovations aim to enhance the dining experience, ensuring that Carmine’s continues to be a memorable destination for both new and returning patrons.
The reopening of Carmine’s marks a significant moment for a Chicago classic that has delighted diners for over three decades. With its revitalized space and a commitment to quality, the restaurant is poised to continue its legacy in the heart of the city.
