Mati Modern Greek Cuisine is set to open its doors in Roseville, taking over the former location of Pete’s Restaurant & Brewhouse at 3003 Douglas Blvd in the Olympus Corporate Centre. According to the Sacramento Business Journal, this new eatery aims to welcome patrons as early as December 2025 or January 2026.
The restaurant will be co-owned by Bulent Ozel and two business partners, focusing on a contemporary approach to Greek cuisine. Rather than the typical gyro-and-shawarma offerings, Mati will feature a diverse menu that includes lamb meatballs, grilled branzino, Greek salad, and house-made pita. The establishment will also serve a selection of handcrafted cocktails, aiming to create a unique dining experience.
A Modern Greek Dining Experience
Ozel, originally from Turkey, is well-acquainted with the local culinary scene, having co-owned both Rose Park Bistro in Roseville and Fiori Italian Bistro in Folsom. His previous experience includes running a restaurant in Burlingame, where he collaborated with his current partners. One partner is Turkish, while the other has both Greek and Turkish heritage. This diverse background is expected to influence the restaurant’s offerings and ambiance.
Mati will undergo a significant interior refresh, incorporating warm, Greek-inspired design elements. The aim is to foster an environment suitable for various occasions, from midday meetings to romantic dinners. Ozel expressed enthusiasm about developing a space that reflects the richness of Greek culture while remaining welcoming to the community.
