A new dining experience is set to occupy the space previously held by the Michelin-starred restaurant Shibumi in downtown Los Angeles. The establishment, named Izakaya Toki, is being introduced by the Casper Hospitality Group, led by brothers Len and Anthony Hayashi. This announcement follows the closure of Shibumi in July 2023, a move that surprised many in the culinary community.

Located at 815 S. Hill St., Izakaya Toki aims to bring a fresh concept to the downtown area. While details regarding the menu and design are still forthcoming, Len Hayashi confirmed the restaurant’s development to What Now Los Angeles. He expressed enthusiasm for the new venture but did not provide further comments at this time.

Casper Hospitality Group has established itself as a notable player in the local dining scene, operating several Mo-Mo-Paradise locations across the Los Angeles area. These restaurants specialize in traditional Japanese hot pot experiences, featuring dishes like shabu-shabu and sukiyaki. Currently, Mo-Mo-Paradise has four locations in Rowland Heights, Irvine, Torrance, and Arcadia.

In addition to Mo-Mo-Paradise, the Hayashi brothers also manage Guzzu Bento-Ya, which offers a selection of bento boxes made with California ingredients. This diverse portfolio highlights their commitment to providing authentic Japanese cuisine while adapting to local tastes.
