Construction of two new police residences is set to begin in Condobolin during the upcoming financial year, enhancing local housing options for law enforcement personnel. These homes are part of a broader initiative by the New South Wales Government to address housing shortages in rural areas.

Alongside the two two-bedroom homes in Condobolin, four four-bedroom residences will be built in Walgett, representing the largest allocation within the Barwon electorate. Both Bourke and Cobar will each receive three new homes, contributing to a total of nineteen residences planned for the 2025-26 financial year. This initiative is part of a larger commitment to deliver thirty-two police homes across the Barwon region by 2027 under the Key Worker Housing Program.

According to Roy Butler, the State Member for Barwon, these new homes are essential for attracting and retaining police officers in rural and remote communities where housing availability poses significant challenges. He stated, “Key worker housing is a major choke point for growing our population in Barwon.”

Butler emphasized the positive impact these residences will have on community safety and stability. “Without secure and appropriate accommodation, it becomes even more difficult to attract and retain officers in tight housing and rental markets. These new homes will make a real difference by allowing police to live locally, be part of the communities they serve, and respond quickly to emergencies.”

The initiative reflects a proactive approach to addressing the unique needs of rural areas, where housing shortages can impede the effectiveness of public services. In the first three years of the Key Worker Housing Program, which concluded on June 30, 2025, thirteen homes were completed in various locations, including Coonamble, Tibooburra, and Bourke. The upcoming construction reflects a continued commitment to improving housing for key workers in the region.

Overall, the new police homes in Condobolin represent a significant investment in local infrastructure, aiming to build stronger ties between law enforcement and the communities they protect.
