A groundbreaking online tool, termed the “Truth Map,” has been launched to catalog and assess the scale of Australia’s commitment to net zero emissions. This initiative, spearheaded by conservationist and wilderness photographer Steve Nowakowski in collaboration with academic Tim Nevard, aims to provide a comprehensive overview of net zero-related developments valued at approximately $1.38 trillion (US$860 billion).
The interactive map illustrates ambitious projections for renewable energy infrastructure across the nation. It reveals plans for an estimated 31,000 wind turbines to be constructed, representing a sixfold increase from current numbers. Researchers indicate that due to varying weather conditions, only 30–40 percent of these turbines will be operational at any given time, necessitating replacements every 15–20 years.
In addition to wind energy, the map forecasts the installation of between 350 million and 550 million solar panel units. These installations will cover an expanse greater than 443,755 hectares, surpassing the size of metropolitan Sydney.
