Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) is set to launch its new Speedpost Direct International (Retail) service on September 15, 2025. This initiative aims to provide retail customers with a lower-cost shipping option to the United States, aligning with recent regulatory changes in U.S. import policies. The service introduces a Delivery Duty Paid (DDP) solution, enhancing compliance with the latest customs requirements while offering a transparent and straightforward shipping process.
The introduction of Speedpost Direct International (Retail) follows significant alterations to U.S. customs regulations, particularly the removal of the “de minimis” exemption on August 29, 2025. Previously, shipments valued under US$800 could enter the U.S. without incurring duties or taxes. Now, all commercial items are subject to duties, taxes, and increased scrutiny. To mitigate potential delays or parcel seizures, SingPost has temporarily suspended standard postal services for commercial shipments to the U.S.
Customers using the new service can send parcels through two standard packaging options: an envelope or a box, both available at a flat shipping rate. The costs are set at S$29 for items up to 0.5 kg in the envelope and S$69 for packages up to 2 kg in the box. Each shipment must not exceed a value of US$100. This pricing structure covers over 80% of typical shipment sizes from Singapore to the U.S.
Neo Su Yin, Group Chief Operating Officer of SingPost, emphasized the service’s commitment to transparency. “Our post office staff will assist customers in calculating and collecting all necessary duties and taxes upfront,” she stated. This approach aims to eliminate unexpected fees for recipients, providing a hassle-free experience from start to finish.
For those with more complex shipping needs, SingPost encourages businesses, including corporations and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to establish corporate accounts. This setup offers dedicated account management and greater flexibility for varying shipment sizes. For packages exceeding 2 kg or valued over US$100, customers can utilize the premium Speedpost Express International service, which ensures expedited delivery to the U.S. within 3-6 days, compared to the 8-day timeframe for the standard service.
To facilitate a smooth shipping process, customers are advised to prepare several key details prior to visiting the post office. They should bring their items for shipment, which will be repackaged into the designated envelope or box. Additionally, customers must know the country of origin of their items, as this is a new requirement for U.S. customs. Having the Harmonised System (HS) Code ready is also essential for customs clearance. If customers are unsure about the correct HS Code, SingPost staff will assist in identifying it. Finally, accurate recipient information, including the full name, address, and contact number, must be provided to ensure successful delivery.
The launch of Speedpost Direct International (Retail) reflects SingPost’s proactive response to evolving global shipping regulations. As the postal landscape adapts to new compliance requirements, this service aims to provide a reliable and efficient alternative for individuals and businesses alike.
