Amber-Jade Sanderson, the Energy and Decarbonisation Minister for Western Australia (WA), is leading a trade mission to South Korea that prioritizes green energy initiatives. Departing today, Minister Sanderson will meet with key industry players, including POSCO, Samsung C&T, and LX International, to discuss investment and collaboration opportunities in areas such as battery manufacturing, green iron and steel production, and the development of transmission infrastructure.

South Korea ranks as WA’s third-largest trading partner, making this mission particularly significant for both regions. Minister Sanderson emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “Our drive to decarbonise and diversify our economy as we make WA a renewable energy powerhouse offers opportunities for our trading neighbours including South Korea.”

Focus on Collaboration in Clean Energy

The mission aims to establish beneficial partnerships in several sectors, including green steel, green ammonia, and Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS). Minister Sanderson believes that WA’s world-class capabilities can be enhanced through South Korea’s expertise and investment, which are crucial for advancing the state’s clean energy transition.

This visit builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2024 between the WA State Government and South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The agreement focuses on collaborative efforts in clean energy, critical minerals, renewable hydrogen, and industrial decarbonisation.

As part of the mission, Minister Sanderson will also promote the upcoming Energy Exchange Australia 2026 conference, scheduled to take place in Perth in March. This event is expected to attract international attention and participation, further highlighting WA’s commitment to becoming a leader in renewable energy solutions.

The trade mission represents a significant step forward in fostering international cooperation in green energy, showcasing WA’s ambition to be at the forefront of the global energy transition.
