Apple Martin, the daughter of renowned musician Chris Martin and actress Gwyneth Paltrow, has spoken candidly about her upbringing and the values instilled by her famous parents. In a recent interview with the Daily Telegraph, the 21-year-old emphasized that she does not feel entitled to the privileges often associated with celebrity life. Instead, she credits her parents for teaching her the importance of hard work and gratitude.
“My parents did a really good job of instilling in me that I shouldn’t be entitled to anything,” Apple explained. “I have to work.” This perspective has shaped her approach to opportunities, allowing her to maintain a grounded outlook on her career and educational pursuits.
Apple, who is currently studying law, history, and society at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, has also begun to make a name for herself in the fashion industry. She recently collaborated with Self Portrait for a new fashion campaign, following her appearance for Chanel during Paris Fashion Week. Additionally, she has posed alongside her mother for a campaign with GapStudio.
Her journey into the workforce began early. By the age of 16, Apple was already gaining experience in a clothing shop. Reflecting on her daughter’s determination, Chris Martin remarked during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2020, “It’s her first job, and she’s about to be 16, making her way in the world, and I’m so proud of her.”
Despite her notable family background, Apple is committed to having a typical college experience. “Hanging out with my friends and trying to have a normal college experience makes me feel more normal,” she shared. Her leisure activities include casual jam sessions with friends and indulging in reality television. “There was one day we spent five hours on the couch just watching old episodes of America’s Next Top Model,” she recalled.
Through her education and burgeoning career, Apple Martin is embracing her identity beyond her parents’ fame. She remains dedicated to hard work and values the opportunities she has been given while striving to maintain a sense of normalcy in her life.
