Biffy Clyro has released their new single, titled “True Believer,” which delves into the concept of having faith in personal decisions. This track is part of their upcoming tenth studio album, Futique, set to launch on September 19, 2023. This album follows their 2021 release, The Myth of the Happily Ever After.
Lead singer Simon Neil, aged 46, shared insights on the song’s meaning in an interview with NME. He explained that “True Believer” emphasizes the importance of trusting oneself, particularly during pivotal moments in life. Neil stated, “‘True Believer’ is about faith: not religious faith, but having faith in your life decisions. Try not to doubt yourself so much.” He added that individuals often reflect on past decisions and realize they were more deliberate than they initially thought.
Neil highlighted the significance of love in guiding both his personal life and the band’s music. He remarked, “Love is the only thing in my life I have conditional faith in. It’s what drives my relationships and our music.” This theme of exploration continues in Futique, which Neil described as an examination of ideas, objects, or relationships that transcend time. He noted, “We are never aware when we do anything for the last time, and there’s a beauty and sadness within that. What will be your Futique?”
Accompanying the release of “True Believer” is an official visualiser that showcases footage from the recording sessions of Futique, live performances from the summer, and behind-the-scenes glimpses. The band has made significant appearances at major festivals this summer, including performances at TRNSMT in Glasgow and the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, along with multiple European festivals.
Looking ahead, Biffy Clyro will embark on an arena tour across the UK and Ireland next year, including a highly anticipated show at the London O2 Arena. Additionally, they will host a series of acoustic performances in October to celebrate the album’s launch.
Previously, the band teased the album with singles such as “A Little Love” and “Hunting Season.” In 2023 and 2024, Neil also engaged in extensive performances with his side project, Empire State B******, alongside Mike Vennart. Promotional materials indicate that Biffy Clyro’s 2025 tour will feature support from Soft Play and The Armed.
As anticipation builds for the release of Futique, “True Believer” serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of self-trust and love in life’s journey.
