The Cadillac Celestiq is set to redefine the ultra-luxury electric vehicle (EV) market, with pricing starting at “low-$400k” (approximately A$613,000) for the 2026 model year. This marks a significant increase from its previous base price of around US$340,000 (approximately A$521,000). Notably, this new price point positions the Celestiq above the Rolls-Royce Spectre EV, which starts at US$397,750 (approximately A$610,000).

Cadillac has adopted a unique sales strategy for the Celestiq, offering it on a “by inquiry only” basis. This exclusive approach reflects the brand’s intention to create a highly personalized experience for each buyer. According to General Motors Authority, the price increase can be partially justified by the addition of eight years of complimentary connected services and a unique patterned design for the vehicle’s ‘smart glass’ roof. This innovative feature incorporates suspended particle technology, allowing each of the four zones to be adjusted for brightness with a simple button press.

Limited Production and Customization Options

Cadillac does not anticipate high sales volumes for the Celestiq, aiming to produce only 25 units in its inaugural year. Tony Roma, chief engineer for the Celestiq, indicated that while production will increase in 2026, it will remain limited, estimating “hundreds, not thousands” will be made. Each Celestiq is tailored to individual customer preferences, with buyers able to order through a concierge service and explore customization options at Cadillac House, located at the General Motors Technical Center in Michigan.

The Celestiq features a striking design as a five-door liftback, measuring 5.5 meters in length. It is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, delivering a total output of 447 kW and 868 Nm of torque. The vehicle is powered by a 111 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, boasting an impressive 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration time of 3.8 seconds and a claimed range of 483 km. Fast-charging capabilities allow for charging speeds up to 200 kW.

Advanced Technology and Luxurious Features

In terms of performance, the Celestiq offers a suite of advanced features, including 23-inch alloy wheels, adaptive air suspension, and Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, which enhances ride quality by adjusting suspension settings in real-time. The vehicle also incorporates Active Rear Steering, which provides up to 3.5 degrees of rear wheel steering out of phase, enhancing maneuverability.

The interior of the Celestiq is designed with luxury in mind, featuring a substantial 55-inch pillar-to-pillar display and an 11-inch console-mounted ‘Command Center.’ Additional screens include an 8-inch rear console screen and 12.6-inch displays on each front seatback. Standard equipment includes a 38-speaker AKG Studio Reference Audio System, active noise cancellation, and climate control catering to all four seats, complete with heating, cooling, and ventilation features.

Cadillac recently commenced deliveries of its Lyriq electric crossover SUV in Australia and plans to expand its electric offerings with the introduction of the Optiq and Vistiq SUVs in 2026. Despite this growth in the electric vehicle segment, the Celestiq will not be available in Australia, as it is manufactured exclusively in left-hand drive.

With a history dating back to 1902, Cadillac has long been synonymous with luxury. While it has not competed in the ultra-luxury market against brands like Rolls-Royce and Bentley for decades, the Celestiq signifies a bold reentry into this elite segment. The vehicle closely resembles the original concept, which suggests Cadillac is committed to delivering high-quality, luxurious EVs that resonate with discerning customers.
