The 2026 Parkes Elvis Festival street parade captivated audiences with its vibrant display of creativity and celebration of love on Saturday morning. Under the theme of Love Me Tender, inspired by the classic Elvis film, participants showcased an array of imaginative costumes, floats, and performances that delighted thousands of attendees.

The event kicked off an hour earlier than usual to avoid the extreme heatwave impacting the state, allowing both participants and spectators to enjoy the festivities in more comfortable conditions. The main street of Parkes was lined with crowds eager to witness the parade, which featured hundreds of entries, including floats, performers, and vintage cars.

Creative Entries Shine in the Spotlight

The parade’s theme encouraged a playful and affectionate spirit, with many floats reflecting the essence of love as portrayed in the film. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as participants embraced the western flair of the movie’s setting in the American South.

Among the highlights were the winners of various categories, announced by the event’s sponsor, Evolution Mining Northparkes Operations. The award for Best Float was claimed by the Parkes Dragon Boat Club, with Paint the Town Red taking the runner-up spot. In the non-motorised category, PASH Me Tender won first place, while the Henry Parkes Museum secured the runner-up position. The Best Walking category saw the Parkes School of Dance triumph, with Colouby Creations following closely behind.
