Lukas Gage, the star of *The White Lotus*, recently reflected on his brief marriage to hair stylist Chris Appleton, describing the experience with a mix of “humility, laughter, and a little bit of sadness.” The couple wed in Las Vegas in 2023 after just two months of dating. The ceremony featured reality star Kim Kardashian officiating and country singer Shania Twain serenading them as they walked down the aisle. Despite the celebratory atmosphere, Gage acknowledges that their union ended just months later, leaving him with complicated emotions.
In an interview with the New York Post‘s PageSix column, Gage expressed his feelings about the wedding, stating, “I’m so clearly lost in that moment. It’s OK, though. [It’s] funny, and I can look back with humility and laughter, but there is a little bit of sadness.” The ceremony was also notable for being featured on *The Kardashians*, marking a significant moment in Gage’s life as he came out as gay on national television.
Gage described the experience as “insane,” reflecting on the juxtaposition of Twain performing at his wedding while he was navigating his identity. He humorously remarked, “It’s kind of funny and insane that Shania Twain is singing me down the aisle while I’m coming out on national television with a fur jacket on and straightened hair. Like, I really had to make a statement with that one.”
At the time of the wedding, Gage was dealing with personal struggles related to medication he was taking. During an appearance on the *Not Skinny But Not Fat* podcast, he candidly stated, “I don’t recognize that person. I don’t know who that person is. And that is really, really disturbing.” He elaborated on the effects the medication had on his sense of self, explaining that he felt disconnected from his true identity.
Despite these struggles, Gage noted that he felt genuine love at the time of the wedding. He reflected, “There was a part of me that was, you know, in love or felt like he was in love and happy and just going with the flow or thought he was happy and going with the flow. But there was another part of me that I didn’t recognize.”
After stopping the medication, Gage experienced a shift in perspective. He described this newfound clarity, saying, “And then getting off of them, I suddenly had clarity, and I was like, ‘Oh s***.’ I just blew up my life.”
The emotional complexity of Gage’s experience highlights the intersection of personal struggles and public life, particularly in the realm of celebrity culture. As Gage continues to navigate his journey, he does so with a sense of humor and a deeper understanding of himself.
