Maddie Aldridge, the daughter of actress Jamie Lynn Spears, has shared her experience of a life-altering ATV accident nine years ago. In a recent YouTube video, the now 17-year-old reflected on the incident that left her in a coma at the tender age of eight.
During the video, Maddie humorously remarked on her self-proclaimed “accident-prone” nature, stating, “I did have an accident though. I was in a coma, and I came back to life, and I’m very blessed.” Her lighthearted tone belies the seriousness of the events that unfolded on that fateful day in February 2017.
Maddie was riding an All-terrain Vehicle (ATV) when it rolled over into a pond, resulting in her near-drowning. She spent several minutes submerged as her mother and others worked to free her from the ATV’s safety harness. Maddie was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she remained unconscious for several days. Fortunately, she made a remarkable recovery with no long-term neurological damage.
In her candid discussion, Maddie also opened up about her health challenges during childhood. She mentioned being “in and out of hospital” for various treatments, including struggles with severe asthma. Her early experiences with illness have shaped her perspective on resilience and gratitude.
Jamie Lynn Spears expressed her pride in Maddie’s openness through an Instagram post, where she praised her daughter’s ability to document both the joyful and challenging aspects of life. She wrote, “What was supposed to be a fun way to document her senior year on @youtube has now turned into a way for her to share the not so fun parts of life too.”
