The announcement came during Sony’s State of Play in September 2025, following the game’s “gone gold” milestone in January 2026, which confirmed that production had been finalized. Initially introduced as a prequel to the successful MMORPG Black Desert Online at Korea’s G-Star 2019, Crimson Desert evolved into a standalone narrative-focused experience, moving away from multiplayer elements in favor of a rich solo campaign.
Players will take on the role of Kliff, a seasoned mercenary from the Greymane faction who is resurrected after a devastating ambush by the rival Black Bears.
