British pop star Rita Ora has expressed her admiration for fellow artist Taylor Swift, calling her “one of the best musicians of our generation.” During an interview on Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Wednesday, Ora shared her thoughts on Swift’s bold new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which features provocative lyrics that have sparked conversation among fans and critics alike.

When asked about Swift’s recent departure from her typically reserved lyrical style, Ora noted the significance of honesty in songwriting. Swift’s lyrics, including phrases like “opened my thighs” and “my d***’s bigger,” have attracted attention for their explicit nature. Ora commented, “I’ve always been sort of very outspoken with who I am. And, you know, sometimes that works for people; sometimes it doesn’t. But the reality is, I’ve always been honest. I think with her as well and her songwriting, she’s always been honest, right? And so why would she change that?”

The singer emphasized the refreshing nature of Swift’s direct approach, stating, “She’s one of the best musicians of our generation, like it goes without saying. And I think having the ability to be that direct, it’s so refreshing.”

In addition to her praise for Swift, Ora shared exciting news about her upcoming project with husband Taika Waititi. The couple is set to adapt the notorious Fyre Festival story into a musical. “This is very true. It’s true, it is a real thing… there’s no other people on Planet Earth, I think, can really do this because you have to have a real sense of humour to understand how to tell this story,” Ora revealed.

The Fyre Festival, which took place in 2017, was famously promoted as a luxury music festival on a private island in the Bahamas but ended in chaos and disappointment. The event was organized by American businessman Billy McFarland and was ultimately cancelled due to the lack of performers and inadequate facilities.

Ora encouraged listeners to familiarize themselves with the festival’s saga, urging them to watch the 2019 documentary, which highlights the festival’s dramatic failures. “If you’re not familiar, please watch the documentary; it is very interesting. I love it as a musician as well, and, you know, Taika being a storyteller… it’s cool to do something that aligns with our sense of humour,” she added.

As both artists continue to push creative boundaries, their collaboration on the Fyre Festival musical promises to blend humor with a cautionary tale of ambition gone wrong. Ora’s candid remarks not only celebrate Swift’s artistic evolution but also hint at an innovative project that may redefine the narrative surrounding one of the most infamous events in music festival history.
